Honda has showcased its next-generation hybrid systems, designed for small, mid-size, and large platforms. Several of these are confirmed for India, marking a big step in Honda’s electrification roadmap.
Small Hybrid Platform – Next-Gen Honda City
The small hybrid system is an improved version of the 1.5-litre i-MMD engine seen in the Honda City e:HEV. This enhanced setup will power the next-generation City, offering better efficiency, smoother transitions, and reduced emissions.
Honda hasn’t confirmed it for the Elevate SUV yet, though it remains possible.
Mid-Size Hybrid Platform – New Honda CR-V
The mid-size hybrid combines a lighter, 90kg-reduced chassis with a new 2.0-litre direct-injection engine and dual-motor hybrid system. The design includes a stiffer frame, higher battery capacity, and improved ride comfort.

This system will debut in the next-generation Honda CR-V, one of seven SUVs Honda plans for India before 2030. It offers stronger low-end torque, linear power delivery, and seamless EV-engine transitions.
Large Hybrid Platform – For Global Markets
A new V6-based large hybrid setup was also unveiled, primarily for SUVs in the U.S. and Europe. Launching globally in 2027, it promises 30% better fuel economy and 10% quicker acceleration over petrol-only models — but won’t be coming to India.
Honda’s Hybrid Roadmap for India
With these updates, Honda aims to expand its hybrid footprint in India, bridging the gap between petrol and full-electric powertrains. The next-gen City Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid will headline Honda’s move toward efficient, sustainable mobility before its EV range arrives later in the decade.
