Tata Sierra Could Get a 7-Seater Version in the Future

The new-generation Tata Sierra, launched recently, may soon grow beyond its 5-seat configuration. Early industry reports suggest that Tata Motors is evaluating a longer, three-row, 7-seater version of the SUV—a model that would slot below the Safari while offering a more rugged, lifestyle-oriented appeal.

Built on the Flexible ARGOS Platform

The Sierra debuts Tata’s new ARGOS platform (All-terrain Ready Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture), engineered to support:

  • Multiple body styles
  • Petrol, diesel and future EV powertrains
  • Advanced drivetrain setups, including AWD

Its modular structure makes a stretched, 7-seater Sierra technically viable without requiring a ground-up redesign.

7-Seater Sierra Under Study

Tata Motors is currently evaluating:

  • A stretched wheelbase
  • Three-row seating layout
  • A cabin focused on family comfort and chauffeur-driven users

If cleared for production, the 7-seater Sierra would position itself below the Safari, offering a more adventurous alternative without overlapping too closely.

Depends on Market Response

Tata will greenlight the 7-seater Sierra only if:

  • The 5-seat Sierra gains strong market traction
  • There is clear demand for another premium 7-seat SUV
  • It delivers incremental sales rather than cannibalising Harrier/Safari volumes

For now, the Sierra remains a 5-seater with multiple powertrains, aimed at lifestyle, premium and urban buyers. An AWD variant is already confirmed for 2027, making it Tata’s first new-gen model with all-wheel-drive capability.

What a 7-Seater Sierra Could Offer

If approved, the three-row Sierra could:

  • Strengthen Tata’s lineup below the Safari
  • Appeal to family SUV buyers seeking a tougher design
  • Enhance the Sierra’s versatility
  • Establish a new niche in the 7-seat mid-size segment

It has the potential to become one of Tata’s most adaptable nameplates in the coming years.Tata Sierra Could Get a 7-Seater Version in the Future
