Land Rover has unveiled the Defender Dakar D7X-R, a race-prepared version of the Defender Octa, built exclusively for the 2026 World Rally-Raid Championship. Developed for the Stock category, this competition-spec SUV will not be available for public sale.
Rally-Focused Mechanical Upgrades
Built on the D7X ladder-body platform, the Dakar version receives major enhancements for extreme off-road racing. These include:

- 35-inch off-road tyres replacing the Octa’s 20-inch wheels
- Widened track (+60mm) for improved high-speed stability
- Reinforced suspension with heavy-duty Bilstein shocks
- Additional underbody protection and a stronger front skid plate
These upgrades significantly boost durability and clearance for Dakar’s demanding terrain.
Purpose-Built Race Interior
Inside, Land Rover has removed all non-essential components to reduce weight and improve safety. Additions include:
- Full roll cage
- Racing seats
- A large 550-litre fuel tank for long rally stages
The D7X-R keeps the Octa’s core powertrain but focuses on endurance, cooling and structural strength to withstand roughly 5,000 km of rally racing.
Not for Commercial Sale
The Defender Dakar D7X-R is exclusively a motorsport project, marking one of Land Rover’s most dedicated factory racing efforts to date.
