Mahindra is preparing for one of its biggest electric mobility expansions yet, with a major ramp-up in production planned over the next year. Following the launch of its newest electric SUV, the XEV 9S, the company now has four EVs in its lineup—the XEV 9S, XEV 9e, BE 6 and the XUV400. With demand rising rapidly across urban and premium SUV buyers, Mahindra has confirmed that it is ready to significantly increase output to keep pace with the accelerating shift toward electrification.
At the XEV 9S launch event, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director at Mahindra, revealed that the company’s monthly EV production will soon move from its current average of 4,000–5,000 units to nearly double that number, reaching 8,000 units per month by March 2026. This is a major milestone for the brand, and Jejurikar noted that the ongoing increase in consumer demand for EVs has made this next-scale expansion essential for Mahindra’s long-term strategy.
All of Mahindra’s new-generation electric vehicles are produced at its dedicated factory in Chakan, Pune. This facility currently manufactures the BE 6, XEV 9e and the newly introduced XEV 9S, and is designed for a peak output of up to 10,000 EVs per month. However, Mahindra plans to maintain a steady operational level of around 8,000 units to ensure that supplier networks, vendor systems and workforce capacity remain stable and consistent. Running the plant at a sustainable rhythm is central to Mahindra’s plan to scale up gradually while maintaining quality and production efficiency.
The rise in production comes at a time when Mahindra’s EV share in total sales is steadily increasing. At present, electric SUVs account for around 7.5 percent of the company’s monthly volumes, with the BE 6 and XEV 9e alone contributing close to seven percent. The addition of the XEV 9S is expected to give these numbers a notable boost, especially as the model taps into the high-demand three-row SUV segment where Mahindra has historically performed well.
Looking ahead, the company projects that by 2028, electric vehicles will make up nearly 20 to 25 percent of its total sales. This marks a significant shift in its product mix and underlines Mahindra’s confidence in India’s EV market growth. The final distribution of production capacity among the BE 6, XEV 9e, XEV 9S and XUV400 will be decided based on market response in the coming months, with Mahindra expected to share more details once the ramp-up progresses.
With a clear roadmap, strong demand and a rapidly expanding EV portfolio, Mahindra is positioning itself as one of India’s leading electric SUV manufacturers, preparing for a future where electric mobility becomes mainstream.
