Kia strengthened its presence in India’s growing electric family car segment earlier this year with the introduction of the Carens Clavis EV, priced from ₹17.99 lakh ex showroom. Designed as the electric counterpart to the popular Carens, it offers three row practicality, long distance capability and a feature rich cabin while relying entirely on electric power. With six variants and six exterior colours to choose from, the EV version has been positioned as one of the most versatile options in its price range.
The Carens Clavis EV is available with two battery options, a 42kWh standard range pack and a larger 51.4kWh extended range pack. The version evaluated here is the top spec 51.4kWh ER model which produces 169bhp and 255Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels. Kia claims a driving range of 490 kilometres on a single charge for this variant, placing it strongly among current three row electric offerings.
To determine how closely these claims translate to real world performance, the HTX+ ER variant was put through CarWale’s real world range testing procedure. The conditions were carefully maintained to reflect typical daily use. The cabin remained set at 24 degrees Celsius with the blower on speed one, the drive mode stayed in Normal throughout the run and regenerative braking was fixed at Level one, mirroring the way most owners would drive in a mix of city and highway conditions.

Under these controlled yet realistic conditions, the Carens Clavis EV managed a real world range of 372 kilometres on a full charge. This equates to 75.9 percent of Kia’s official figure, which aligns well with the broader pattern seen across modern EVs when tested outside laboratory cycles. Although the delivered number is lower than the certified range, it remains more than sufficient for everyday commuting, family duties and moderately long weekend trips without the need to charge frequently.
Beyond the numbers, the Clavis EV continues to deliver on the strengths that make the standard Carens popular. It remains spacious, practical and comfortable, providing families and fleet buyers with a balanced package and enough usable range to serve as a dependable daily electric MPV. For those wanting a more comprehensive understanding of its charging behaviour, cabin comfort, performance and value positioning, an extended road test and full review is available on the website.
