Mahindra is evaluating the introduction of a new 70kWh battery pack for the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs. The battery, which debuted on the XEV 9S in the Pack Two Above variant, may be extended to these models depending on customer response and market performance. If approved, it will sit between the existing 59kWh and 79kWh packs, creating new mid-range variants with a more balanced mix of performance, range, and pricing.
Why the 70kWh Variant Makes Sense
The XEV 9S already showcases where the 70kWh pack fits within Mahindra’s pricing structure.
- 59kWh Pack (Pack One Above) — ₹21.95 lakh
- 70kWh Pack (Pack Two Above) — ₹24.45 lakh
- 79kWh Pack — ₹25.45 lakh
The 70kWh option fills the ₹1 lakh gap between the lower and higher battery packs, making it an attractive step-up variant for customers wanting more range without stretching to the top-end versions.
Battery & Motor Specifications
The 70kWh battery delivers:
- Claimed range: 600 km
- Motor output: 241bhp / 380Nm (RWD)
Comparison across packs:
- 59kWh: 521 km, 227bhp / 380Nm
- 79kWh: 679 km, 281bhp / 380Nm

For both the BE 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra is expected to follow a similar strategy—positioning the new battery pack as a versatile mid-spec option targeted at value-focused buyers who still want long range.
Pricing Logic for BE 6 & XEV 9e
For the BE 6, the jump between current 59kWh and 79kWh variants is around ₹2 lakh, leaving clear room for a mid-tier 70kWh option.
For the XEV 9e, the pricing gap is tighter—₹1 lakh between equivalent variants—but a mid-spec model could still appeal if Mahindra fine-tunes the feature list to justify its positioning.
No Six-seat XEV 9S Yet
Mahindra also confirmed that the XEV 9S will not receive a six-seat layout at launch. The company may consider it later if demand is strong. Currently, the 9S comes with a 60:40 split second row, with the 40% section featuring a tip-and-tumble mechanism for easy third-row access.
