Mahindra XEV 9S to Get Power Boss Mode, Premium Cabin Features Revealed

Mahindra XEV 9S to Get Power Boss Mode, Premium Cabin Features Revealed

Mahindra continues to build anticipation around its upcoming flagship electric SUV, the XEV 9S, ahead of its India debut on 27 November. The latest teaser confirms a major comfort-focused upgrade — the Power Boss Mode, aimed squarely at elevating rear-seat luxury.

Previously available in a manual form on the XUV700, Mahindra has now upgraded it into a fully powered system, signalling a stronger push toward premium in-cabin technology for its next-generation electric SUVs.

Power Boss Mode: Reinvented for Electrified Luxury

The new Power Boss Mode allows the second-row left passenger to electrically adjust the front passenger seat, creating a near-lounge experience. A dedicated switch panel placed on the second-row armrest enables occupants to:

  • Recline the front passenger seatback
  • Slide and adjust the seat base
  • Maximise legroom for the second row
  • Create an ultra-comfortable chauffeur-driven setup

This is a major leap over the manual Boss Mode of the XUV700, which offered limited range and required physical effort. The XEV 9S’s powered configuration aligns more with premium luxury SUVs.

The teaser also highlights several upscale cabin touches, including:

  • A full-length panoramic sunroof
  • Rich beige upholstery
  • Ventilated front seats, indicating climate-controlled comfort

These elements suggest that Mahindra is prioritising both comfort and an elevated cabin ambience.

Mahindra’s First Three-Row Born-Electric SUV

The XEV 9S marks a crucial milestone for Mahindra as its first three-row electric SUV developed from the ground up. It represents the third evolution stage in Mahindra’s BE lineup:

  1. XUV.e8 – The early concept
  2. XEV 7e – The near-production prototype
  3. XEV 9S – The final production-ready model

The SUV is built on Mahindra’s advanced INGLO skateboard platform, which underpins the BE6 and XEV 9e. The INGLO architecture enables:

  • High-voltage EV battery systems
  • Optimised wheelbase for improved space
  • Multiple motor configurations
  • Level 2+ ADAS
  • Best-in-class crash safety potential

The XEV 9S is expected to use these strengths to deliver a plush cabin, strong dynamics, and extensive software-driven features.

Expected Powertrain: Shared With the XEV 9e

While Mahindra has not revealed final specifications, the XEV 9S is expected to share components with the XEV 9e, including:

  • A 282hp, rear-wheel-drive single-motor layout
  • A long-range LFP battery pack with rapid fast-charging
  • Drive modes, adjustable regen levels, and other EV-specific controls

This configuration will cater to efficiency, smoothness, and long-distance usability — priorities for a family-oriented three-row EV.

Pricing Strategy: Competitive but Premium

Mahindra is likely to position the XEV 9S above the XEV 9e, with expected pricing in the ₹21–30 lakh range. However, considering Mahindra’s past strategy with models like the XUV700 and Scorpio-N, the brand may opt for aggressive introductory pricing, especially for early bookings.

Final variant-wise prices may be revealed after the initial debut to maximise early interest.

Why the XEV 9S Matters

The XEV 9S is shaping up to be one of Mahindra’s most important EVs yet, bringing together:

  • A state-of-the-art INGLO EV platform
  • Premium, feature-loaded interiors
  • Strong performance expectations
  • Three-row practicality
  • Exclusive technology like the Power Boss Mode

With rivals such as the Tata Harrier EV and BYD eMAX 7 also preparing for launch, the XEV 9S will be pivotal in expanding Mahindra’s footprint in India’s fast-growing electric SUV market.
