The next generation Kia Seltos is preparing for its much anticipated India debut on 10 December, and this update represents the most extensive transformation the SUV has received since it first arrived in the country. Rather than a typical facelift, the upcoming model is a complete generational upgrade that brings a more premium design, a smarter and more advanced cabin and the strong possibility of a new hybrid powertrain. With these upgrades, Kia is positioning the new Seltos as a future ready SUV that will sit at the top of the segment in terms of technology and refinement.
Recent spy images have already revealed the direction Kia is taking with the design. The SUV’s overall shape has become noticeably boxier and more upright, giving it a more confident stance on the road. The front now features a larger and squarer grille that immediately draws attention, supported by vertically stacked daytime running lamps and redesigned bumpers that give the Seltos a wider and more muscular appearance. The sides reveal fresh alloy wheel designs, and a more rugged and modern interpretation of the rear with new LED tail lamps and a sculpted tailgate completes the exterior makeover. Together, these changes make the new Seltos look more mature, more aggressive and in line with Kia’s latest global design philosophy.
Inside, the upgrade is equally extensive. The dashboard is expected to move to a cleaner, more premium layout with improved materials and a more refined design. A larger infotainment system and updated digital cluster graphics will add a modern feel, while the centre console is expected to be redesigned for better usability. Seating comfort will improve thanks to recontoured seats and enhanced support. The next generation Seltos is also set to receive major upgrades in connected technology, an expanded suite of advanced driver assistance features and fresh dual tone interior themes that will help the cabin feel more luxurious and more contemporary.
Under the bonnet, the new Seltos is likely to continue with the familiar set of engines that have served it well so far. These include the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol, the 1.5 litre turbo petrol and the 1.5 litre diesel engines. Gearbox choices will also continue across manual, iMT, CVT, torque converter automatic and DCT options depending on the engine. What truly elevates this update is the expected introduction of a strong hybrid powertrain which has appeared in multiple test vehicles. If Kia introduces this hybrid system as anticipated, the Seltos will gain a major advantage in fuel efficiency and become a direct rival to hybrid models from Toyota and Maruti.
Once it goes on sale, the new generation Seltos will enter a fiercely competitive landscape. Its rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and the upcoming Tata Curvv. With a bold new design, a heavily updated interior, expanded powertrain choices and the promise of a hybrid version, the new Seltos is expected to solidify Kia’s strong foothold in the mid size SUV market and attract an even larger customer base.
