Weekly News Roundup: Sierra and XEV 9S Prices Announced, Amaze Secures Five-Star Safety Rating

The past week has been one of the most eventful periods of the year for India’s automotive industry, especially in the SUV and EV segments. Several major launches, pricing announcements and safety developments shaped the market landscape, giving buyers plenty to look forward to as the year approaches its final month.

Tata Motors finally ended the suspense surrounding one of its most iconic nameplates by launching the all-new Sierra. The company has revealed only the starting price of ₹11.49 lakh so far, with the remaining variant-wise pricing expected shortly. The new Sierra arrives with three powertrains — the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, the 1.5-litre diesel and the 1.5-litre TGDi turbo-petrol — and is offered across seven variants divided into four broad categories. The complete pricing structure will be crucial in determining where the Sierra positions itself against established mid-size SUV rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos and the soon-to-return Renault Duster.

Mahindra, meanwhile, introduced a landmark product in its electric portfolio with the launch of the XEV 9S, its first full-size three-row electric SUV. Priced at ₹19.95 lakh (introductory), the XEV 9S takes a more traditional SUV approach than the sleeker XEV 9e, while adding a new 70kWh battery option to the lineup. Built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, it promises a more usable third row, a familiar upright stance and a feature list that has been largely carried over from the XEV 9e. The model will naturally attract comparisons with the Tata Harrier EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia Carens Clavis EV, all of which target a fast-growing space in India’s EV segment.

Mahindra also expanded the BE 6 portfolio by launching the special Formula E Edition. Priced at ₹23.69 lakh, this limited-run version is capped at 999 units and brings a variety of race-inspired cosmetic enhancements. These upgrades include reworked bumpers, a redesigned lighting signature with circular LED headlamps, a sportier rear spoiler and several orange accents applied across both the bodywork and the cabin. Equipped with a 79kWh battery pack and retaining the BE 6’s performance-oriented stance, this edition strengthens Mahindra’s connection to its global Formula E programme.

On the safety front, Honda reached a significant milestone with the Amaze sedan earning a five-star rating in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests. The compact sedan delivered 28.33 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 40.81 out of 49 for child occupant safety. These results apply to the V, VX and ZX trims, across both manual and CVT variants. With this achievement, the Amaze joins the Maruti Dzire as one of only two sub-4-metre sedans in India to secure a full five-star BNCAP rating, strengthening its appeal among safety-conscious buyers.

The week ahead is expected to bring even more headline-worthy updates. Maruti Suzuki will officially reveal prices for the much-anticipated e Vitara on 2 December, marking the company’s entry into India’s electric vehicle market. In parallel, Tata Motors is preparing to announce the complete variant-wise pricing for the new Sierra, which will finally present a clear picture of how the SUV intends to take on its competitors.
