Mahindra is preparing a significant update for its flagship SUV, the XUV700, and early signs point toward a new name — XUV 7XO. A newly surfaced trademark filing confirms the badge, suggesting Mahindra may adopt the same naming approach used for the facelifted XUV300, which was relaunched as the XUV 3XO.
This hint aligns with Mahindra’s refreshed branding strategy and signals a more comprehensive update than a usual mid-cycle facelift.
Spy Shots Reveal Key Changes
The facelifted XUV700 — likely to debut as the XUV 7XO — has been spotted testing multiple times across India. Although heavily camouflaged, several noticeable exterior updates stand out.
Expected Exterior Upgrades
- A more upright, multi-slat front grille
- Redesigned LED projector headlamps
- Sharper, chunkier front bumper design
- New alloy wheel patterns
- Updated LED tail-lamp signatures
- Revised rear bumper
While the core silhouette remains familiar, these fresh styling elements aim to give the SUV a stronger, more aggressive presence.
Major Interior Overhaul Coming
The interior is set for a much more dramatic transformation. Spy images indicate several premium additions and layout changes:
- A triple-screen dashboard setup, in line with Mahindra’s newer models
- New ambient lighting elements
- Massaging front seats (expected feature)
- Sliding second-row seats for better comfort and flexibility
- A premium Harman Kardon audio system
These updates are poised to elevate the cabin experience significantly, making the XUV 7XO feel more modern and upmarket.

Powertrain: No Major Mechanical Changes Expected
Under the hood, Mahindra is unlikely to make big alterations. The XUV 7XO should continue with the same robust and well-regarded engine options:
2.0-litre mStallion Turbo-Petrol
- Strong performance output
- Offered with both manual and automatic transmissions
2.2-litre mHawk Diesel
- Available in multiple state-of-tune options
- AWD expected to remain exclusive to select diesel–automatic variants
This proven powertrain lineup has been one of the XUV700’s biggest strengths, so Mahindra appears confident in retaining it.
Launch Timeline and Competition
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is expected to be launched in early 2026, accompanied by a slight price hike compared to the current XUV700.
Once on sale, it will continue competing against key three-row SUVs such as:
- Tata Safari
- Hyundai Alcazar
- MG Hector Plus
With a refreshed design, upgraded cabin, new premium features, and a potential name change, the XUV 7XO is shaping up to strengthen Mahindra’s presence in the three-row SUV segment and extend the success of the current XUV700.
