Kia Syros EV Spied Testing in Korea, India Launch Confirmed for 2026

Kia’s Next Affordable Electric SUV on the Way

After the launch of the Carens Clavis EV earlier this year, Kia is gearing up for its next mass-market electric model — the Syros EV. The upcoming SUV has been spotted testing in Korea, with additional test mules seen on Indian roads as well. Fresh spy shots from Autospy now show the Syros EV being charged at a DC fast-charging station in Korea, giving us new insights into its design and details.

The Kia Syros EV is expected to debut in India by mid-2026, following the completion of global testing.

Spy Shots Reveal Familiar Design

The latest images show the Syros EV under heavy camouflage, yet its tall, upright stance and distinct silhouette confirm its identity. The EV version appears to retain much of the design language from the existing ICE-powered Syros, including the body proportions, panel lines, and even the wheel design.

The rear bumper, however, seems to feature subtle styling tweaks. While the overall design continuity might please some, many enthusiasts on social media are hoping Kia will refresh the EV’s styling to make it stand out better than its petrol-powered sibling.

Charging Port Details

One of the key details revealed through the spy images is the charging port position — located on the left front fender. This setup is similar to what’s seen in higher-end EVs like the Porsche Taycan, which often have dual ports for added convenience.

However, given the cost-conscious positioning of the Syros EV, it’s likely to come with just a single charging port, rather than one on each side.

Expected Powertrain and Range

While Kia hasn’t officially disclosed specifications, reports suggest the Syros EV will be offered with two battery pack options42 kWh and 49 kWh, both using Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistry.

  • 42 kWh battery: 300–350 km range
  • 49 kWh battery: Up to 370 km range

Both variants are expected to support fast charging, with 10–80% top-ups in about 30 minutes via DC chargers. Power is likely to be sent to the front wheels (FWD layout).

Styling Could Be Key to Success

The ICE Syros was introduced in India as a model positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, and it initially saw decent success, clocking 25,000 units in five months. However, sales quickly declined due to its unconventional styling, which didn’t resonate with most Indian buyers.

If Kia wants the Syros EV to succeed, a styling update could make all the difference. A more balanced, mainstream design could help the electric SUV appeal to a wider audience.

India Launch Timeline and Rivals

The Kia Syros EV is expected to make its India debut by mid-2026, with prices likely ranging between ₹14–20 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will take on strong competitors in the Indian EV market, including:

  • Tata Nexon EV
  • MG Windsor EV
  • Tata Punch EV
  • Mahindra XUV400

Verdict

The Kia Syros EV looks set to be a practical and affordable addition to India’s growing EV lineup. With a proven platform, fast-charging capability, and competitive range figures, it has the potential to perform well — provided Kia gets the design and pricing strategy right.
