Mahindra has dropped a new teaser for the upcoming XEV 9S, confirming one of the most premium comfort features in modern SUVs — Boss Mode. This function lets the rear passenger electronically move the front passenger seat forward, creating significantly more legroom and elevating the chauffeur-driven experience.
Boss Mode for Premium Rear Comfort
Once exclusive to luxury sedans, Boss Mode is now appearing in premium SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and Harrier EV. With the XEV 9S, Mahindra is introducing this feature to its flagship electric SUV, reinforcing its focus on rear-seat luxury.
Positioned as the three-row electric sibling to the XUV700, the XEV 9S is built on the INGLO platform that also underpins the XEV 9e and BE 6. It will serve as Mahindra’s new premium electric flagship, aimed at delivering superior comfort, technology, and cabin experience.
Interior: Triple Screens & Premium Cabin Experience
Mahindra’s teasers confirm several upscale features inside the XEV 9S, including:
- Triple-screen dashboard (instrument cluster, infotainment, passenger display)
- Two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Mahindra logo
- White interior theme
- Reclining second-row seats
- Panoramic sunroof
Expected premium additions include:
- Ventilated front seats
- Dual-zone climate control
- Leatherette upholstery
- Powered driver seat
- Wireless charging
- 360-degree camera
- Level 2 ADAS
These elements position the XEV 9S as a technologically advanced and comfort-oriented electric SUV.

Exterior: Modern EV Styling
The XEV 9S features a more upright, spacious silhouette compared to its 5-seater XEV 9e sibling. Expected exterior highlights include:
- Connected LED DRL bar
- Closed-off EV-specific grille
- Aero-styled alloy wheels
- Low-mounted LED headlamps
- Redesigned tailgate with connected tail-lamps
- Raised roofline for improved third-row space
Mahindra’s evolving EV design language focuses on aerodynamics, road presence, and futuristic details.
Expected Powertrain Options
While Mahindra hasn’t revealed final specs, the XEV 9S is likely to share its powertrain with the XEV 9e and BE 6.
Expected outputs:
- 59kWh battery: 231hp, 380Nm
- 79kWh battery: 286hp, 380Nm
Expected range (claimed from sibling models):
- 59kWh: 542–557 km
- 79kWh: 656–683 km
The 3-row packaging and potential AWD layout may alter final range figures.
