Ampere Nexus Becomes First Indian E-Scooter to Conquer Kolli Hills

Ampere has set a new record in India’s electric vehicle sector with the Nexus becoming the first Indian electric scooter to conquer Kolli Hills in Tamil Nadu. Kolli Hills is known for its steep roads and 70 sharp hairpin bends, making it one of the most demanding hill routes in the region.

The record attempt was completed on January 7, 2026, and has been officially recognised by the Asia Book of Records. The Ampere Nexus climbed from Belukurichi to the summit in 22 minutes and 10 seconds.

The scooter used for the climb was a standard production model. It was powered by a 3 kWh LFP battery and a mid-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor producing up to 4 kW of peak power. A high-tensile steel chassis helped the scooter maintain stability during the continuous uphill run.

Kolli Hills is often used to test vehicle endurance due to the constant load placed on the motor and battery. Completing the climb successfully highlights the growing capability of electric scooters in real-world Indian conditions.

Ampere says the achievement proves electric scooters can handle challenging terrain and marks an important step forward for electric mobility in India.

Ampere said the achievement highlights its focus on building electric scooters that are capable of more than just city commuting. According to the company, the record run proves that electric scooters can handle tough road conditions and challenging terrain with reliability.
